Straight off his appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel Show, award-winning, singer-songwriter, Jeff Campbell did an early-bird showcase at our own Viper Room.

Looking every inch the modern day Llewyn Davis of “Inside” movie fame, Jeff is a tousle-haired, bearded, big brown-eyed lost puppy, soulful singer-songwriter who wows.

Campbell won 2013’s Singer-Songwriter 2 Contest sponsored by The Guitar Center, so singersongwriter2something is going on here. Prize included the TV appearance. From Kimmel’s backstage, “I can’t thank The Guitar Center enough. This is my shot.” Humble and talented, a rare combo.

Tonight at the Viper that is all prettied up with the Xmas lights and thoughts of gingerbread in our collective heads, Jeff’s set is soft, sweet and effective. Loved the mandolin. Songs are from the heart and playing is Alt-Country, Rock Blues infused. Dishwalla will come later and louder.

Post-set, Mr. Campbell is kissing all the girls and relatives that made it for the show. (Grandma flew in from Pittsburgh.) First-timer playing The Viper. Yeah, he loved it.

His new Hollywood-recorded  EP is called “In Spite of Everything” produced by Grammy-winner John Shanks. Take your shot, Jeff and aim high.
