Ignorance is Bliss

Blown away. That’s what I was when I put in The Black Mollys Second Album "Ignorance Is Bliss".

A while back I reviewed The Black Mollys "Overnight Disgrace". Every single song on the CD rocked me. I still listen to it to this day and know every word to every song. When Tory told me they were coming out with another CD I was excited. However I didn’t think there was any way possible they could top the first CD. In most cases a band is lucky to come out with one CD that has a couple of good songs on it.

I got the CD in the mail and popped it in and "Complaining" hit me like a lightening bolt. I didn't and haven't taken out the CD since. Every single song on this CD is amazing. Tory Stoffregen, Randi Scott and Patrick Pulver are a force and will make you sit up and take notice. Tory's voice is amazing. I am surprised that these guys aren't played on every major radio station in every market.

"Complaining" is followed up with "Erica". It’s a great little tune about a girl that we all know. It made me giggle for sure, only because it hit home a little closer than usual for personal reasons. Then you get to rock out with "I'm So Ordinary". The arrangement on this song is tight and different from the others on the CD. The bridge will really hook you. That’s the point isn’t it?

I think one thing I like best about the CD is the song "Hollywood". It is an amazing ballad. You get a couple of them on this CD [Thank you Tory]. But of all of them, and quite possibly all the songs on the CD this is the one I keep coming back to. This is my favorite song period. When my best friend Kellie and I were listening to the CD this song came on, 4 notes into it she looked at me and said "I like it already and his voice is amazing". I replied..."Clearly!" "Don't ask me" is another great one but this song is GOLD.

After "Hollywood" you get to rock out for a few more songs with "Girlfriend", "Overdrive" and "All My Life". "All My Life" has a haunting intro to it but when the chorus comes up the harmonies and guitars sweep you away. "Fake It" is another kick ass rocker and then you are picked up by "Gone Away". It’s not really a ballad per-say. It's slower and groovier with a story in the lyrics, and of course by the time its over you will be singing along. The guitar solo in this song is so amazing it will send chills up your spine. "You Never Come Around" demonstrates the versatility of these guys. And the way they harmonize when they sing is incredible. The CD is closed with "Don't Ask Me". I already told you about that song.

The Black Mollys CD can be picked up at www,TheBlackMollys.com and you can also check them out on MySpace at www.myspace.com/TheBlackMollys. Do yourself a favor and add this CD to your collection. You'll thank me.

And a personal note: Tory you are amazing! And I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to hear your music first off, and for being my friend. You and the guys are just unreal and my life is so much richer knowing you and hearing this awesome work you do. Please don't ever stop, I for one can’t get enough of The Black Mollys! Thank you. [Sappy I know but hey every bitch has a right to have a little softer side right?]
