Actor, singer, songwriter, musician and once in a while Sugarbuzz correspondent, Cameron Dye is opening for Magic Christian at their second Hollywood May date, on the last Friday of the month at the Cat Club. We are so there.

He is thrilled to be on the bill with Cyril Jordan's new band. "I jammed with the Groovies years ago. They were playing a date with the Plimsouls." Dye is an old time Hollywood rocker. Co-starred in punk music classic "Valley Girl" and has stayed pals with the Plims and Peter Case. And Case is another bud with Cyril. Six degrees of separation time. Get it?

Cameron's been writing and singing in the clubs around town for years, building up his back-up band, bit by bit. First a guitar, then another, a fiddle and a finally a drummer. Slowed down a touch, they call this old school Punk "Americana." Veteran players all; Matt Downs on guitar, Dave Gore on bass, Lyn Bertles on fiddle and drummer, Nick Vincent.

Heavily influenced by the British Invasion, Cameron's first song was a cover of "The Mighty Quinn." Ok, Ok, it's a Dylan song, but it was covered by Manfred Mann. Breakout hit is absolutely "Mary Magdalena." And he had em dancing for that one. A jangly, pretty thing, some where between the Byrds and Georgie Fame.

Cameron did a new song with an old title, "Stormy Monday." He wrapped up his set with John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom Boom" ala Eric Burden. No guitar and grabbing the mic with both hands. "Gonna shoot ya right down!"

Magic Christian up next.
