Upon the well-traveled dusty gravel strewn road a lone figure emerges from underneath a dilapidated ancient tree. He pulls his well worn weather stained felt hat down towards his eyes, slings his sticker adorned guitar over his shoulder and continues on his journey through rural lands. He is a gatherer of stories and weaves tales of real life into each fabric of composition.
Through Cory’s music and stories he comes across as a young Bob Dylan without the muttering mouth full of marbles annunciation and/or crossbred with a happier Elliot Smith. For a young musician Cory exudes an old soul. It is as if Jim Croce, Nick Drake are lending their voice, songwriting composition and feeling from afar.
Cory’s music is a no frills package (all meat and no bun! or for you vegetarians all Falafel no pita!). The music should be based on the music itself and not the flashy hype that comes with large music labels smacking your brains in with subliminal sex addled images of little girls dressed like women in lingerie. Insert Commercial Here- Buy My Album and you too can get chicks, fast cars and piles of narcotics for every orifice!
The problem is that most of the general public likes to be spoon-fed and told what they like (wake up people!). If Cory’s music were played on folk/roots
music radio stations, for example, it would catch on like a California out of control wildfire. Children from foreign lands would be clutching their Cory Case dolls as if he was some new superhero ready to fight crime one heartfelt song at a time. (Note that last line was filler and in no way, shape or form am I implying there are Cory Case dolls for sale…yet!)
My ears first were fed Cory’s music around a campfire in a heavily wooded area with friends. The most common response I heard that evening while the CD sang out to the wooded beasts was “ Question-Who is this? ……Answer-Cory Case Question-Who?
Answer-Cory Case a singer on a label called Deadbeat Records Question- Is that from the 60’s? Answer-No, Cory is current. He is now! Question-Really? Answer-No I am fucking making it up, now shut up! Question- Are you sure he is not from the 70’s…c’mon sounds like James Taylor doing Dylan Answer-No it is not …listen go inside grab the CD cover and then maybe you will shut up and believe me!
Question-Where is it? …………………AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHH.
Okay now you begin to understand that I am trying to illustrate that Cory is on a different plane. He paints a picture of a bygone era but is current and legitimate in this day and age. I see Cory growing with this debut and establishing himself as a household name.
Your duty is to visit his myspace site or buy his CD and spread the word.
