What IS a little sin under the covers?! You must buy this album. You must! It has all the little pleasures in life. I promise.

For years I have been spreading the word to anyone who would listen that Dog Fashion Disco is Baltimore’s best kept secret. The colorful lyrics delivered by Todd Smith leave a powerful impression. It is incredible to see both the imagination and vocal range he has been blessed with. He and the rest of the boys are in perfect sync. A marriage made in heaven, some might say.

I was overwhelmed with anticipation as I waited for the first track to begin. I was met with a seductive whisper, “Who got into your soul? Who ’s that voice in your head? Who put that look in your eyes? The uninvited guest ”.

With virtually no help from radio, tv or press of any kind, Dog Fashion Disco has managed to create a huge underground following called the Mushroom Cult. Incidentally, one of my favorite DFD tunes from the 2001 Spitfire Records release Anarchists of Good Taste is “ The Mushroom Cult ” featuring guest vocals from System of a Down’s Serj Tankian. They’ve worked with a ton of industry favorites.

It baffles me that these guys are still struggling to be heard. They manage to incorporate every emotion known to man, and maybe a few known to women, into every song. Rock, jazz, metal, ska, sex, drugs, rock & roll, happiness, anger, lust and hate. You name it.

These guys keep it interesting for sure. Adultery struck me as almost theatrical, which is great since I later read the press kit insert which said:

Adultery is about a seemingly normal guy in his mid-30’s, burdened with a wife, kids and a safe corporate job. He caves into his own demons, and begins flirting with drugs, prostitutes and eventually gives into his dark desires and sadistic and murderous lifestyle. This record is this guy ’s life spiraling out of control into a demented and dark place, ” says Dog Fashion Disco front man Todd Smith about the concept behind his band’s latest offering. “ There are so many twists and turns on this record it ’s more like listening to a movie at times, but the song structure still remains ”.

So, well done on the whole “ movie ” concept.

I really can ’t stress enough BUY THIS ALBUM. And check out their previous releases as well. Dog Fashion Disco is unlike anything you ’ve heard. “Anarchists of Good Taste ” is in my player all the time, but I may just have a new favorite.
