Hey Ho! Figured I would start going through piles of vinyl records I have and review them. Maybe I will introduce you to something you have not heard and maybe I will just piss you off. Who knows…? Who cares? So, Here we go …the first installment of “Duda Spins Vinyl”.

Nils Lofgren-Nils Lofgren-1976 A& M Records

Perhaps best known for his guitar slinging with Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen (and at one time a possible choice for Mick Taylor’s replacement in the Rolling Stones)Regardless, Nils solo output proves he is a strong songwriter on his own accord. Bluesy rock and roll not far from the Rolling Stones formula but rubber stamped with Nils axe and vocal styling. Fans of Graham Parker, Elvis Costello etc will appreciate this often forgotten singer/songwriter.

Highlights-If I Say It, It’s So , Keith Don’t Go (Ode to the Glimmer Twin)

GBH-City Baby’s Revenge-101 Ways to Kill a Rat-Clay Records-1984

These soapy spikey haired British Street Urchins immerged from the sewer on the second tsunami sized wave of Punk in 1979. Taking cues from early hardcore and combining it with melody and clever lyrics they emerged in front of the rabid pack. Perhaps, their best release to date-City Baby’s Revenge proves that organized chaotic sound can be rapturous.

Highlights- Diplomatic Immunity, Vietnamese Blues, Womb with a View, The Forbidden Zone, City Baby’s Revenge, Pins and Needles

Dave Davies- AFL1-3603-RCA-1980

Dave Davies of the Kinks on his solo first solo LP proving that Ray is not the only Kink in the system. Dave offers up a plentitude of style and blistering guitar work. If you are expecting some vintage Kinks then you should hit the back catalogue. Possessing elements of the Davies brothers spun gold but not quite reaching the Golden Fleece.

Highlights-Where Do You Come From, Nothing More to Lose

The Reducers-The Reducers-1984 Rave On Records

Quick! Name a band that hails from New London, CT that should have been huge and adored as much as The Replacements. If you guessed The Reducers then you get a big prize at the end of this review. Combining pub rock, punk rock and just blood sweat and tears rock and roll combined with wit, charm and intelligence. Check out the website for all their releases. Oh yeah the prize….the fact that I just introduced you to a great band is a prize in itself!
