G.B.H "Alcohol"

"You're like a kind of religion,
I see you each night on television.
I can't remember all your names;
I love you running through my veins.
Alcohol, oh alcohol, I love you in my brains.
Alcohol, oh alcohol, I never want you again.
I come and see you every night,
take out my purse and I’ll buy you a pint.
Would you like another? No thanks,
tonight I’m wearing incontinence pants."

GBH were my punk rock heroes in the 1980’s. I proudly displayed their logo on the back of my well-worn leatherjacket; thus introducing them to many a metal head that were alarmingly becoming interested in Punk Rock (mostly because of Metallica’s fascination with the genre). GBH were always a few steps ahead of the crowd; creating their own sound that never seemed stale or Neanderthal like. These Punk Junkies always seemed to keep building upon the original formula keeping a neoteric edge.

Classic GBH records such, as the Leather Bristles Studs and Acne 12”, City Babies Revenge and City Baby Attacked By Rats were the soundtrack to my days in high school. Being the only token punk in the mid 80’s in my school meant I was constantly fighting off the jocks and anyone else who decided that they took offense to me looking a little left of the dial. Amazing how at one time a Mohawk could piss off a whole neighborhood!

Anyways, GBH in 2006 is still going strong today with Colin, Jock and Ross being the original trio and in addition to what I believe to be their fourth drummer. They still manage to sound viable today. GBH have seemed to grow as a cohesive unit never losing the sound of a wrist running down a sharp scalpel. Perhaps a little more of a metal edge to them but still overtly powerful in their overall output. This release was originally on We Bite records for a fleeting second. S.O.S records has graciously released this once sought after collectible.

This 1996 powerhouse of a cd should give those little lollipop punk bands a boot up the old brown eye. These veterans show you the way it should be done with all guts and no fluff. This well produced cd will melt the hairspray right out of your head!
