This is one of those times when I’m writing a review and I’m so excited that I come up with about 5 different ways to start it off, and then scrap all of them at the last minute and wind up writing something lame like I just did… anyway…

When I first saw a photo of Mick Priestley, I thought Joe Lestee meets Ian Astbury: probably a part of that movement that’s reviving hair metal. So when I got the CD in the mail, I didn’t throw it in right away. I e-mailed back and forth with Mick a bit, and he seems like a cool guy with a rockstar attitude of: I’m the shit. But remember, it isn’t an ego problem if it’s the truth. And it is the truth.

Eventually, I decided to stop being closed minded and tossed the Green River Project CD in my car to take with me on one of my numerous trips to Nashville.

Nashville, TN, is a little more than 4 hours from Atlanta, GA. I must have listened to that 3 track demo over and over for a good 2 ½ of those hours. Eventually I forced myself to take it out to listen to something else so that I didn’t develop overkill, but just wound up putting it back in a short while later.

To put it bluntly, the best tour for The Green River Project to be a part of would be them opening for the likes of Symphony X, Dream Theater, and Dragonforce. GRP has such a huge instrumental and heavy sound…

I am in such awe of Mick Priestley’s guitar playing! Then you add Andy Law’s (Headrush) scratchy, skuzzy, wide-ranged vocals and Adrian Erlandsson’s (Cradle Of Filth/At The Gates/The Haunted) rapid fire, pounding drums and even those of us who can be a bit jaded towards new bands have no ability to deny: this is the fucking shit!

I blast this little CD- now added to my iPod- and rock out in my car like it’s the venue and I’m at a show. I’m badly playing air guitar and beating the steering wheel to the drums and singing along at the top of my lungs. I even flash the devil horns out of necessity- knowing no one sees them and so they do no good and the action is thus ridiculous, but I can’t help it. And I have to watch it, cos they give me a lead foot…

Which reminds me: open mouth, insert foot- Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Don’t judge a band by their image. Yadda yadda. Thanxx for making me feel like an ass, and for reiterating those points, Mick. Oh, and thanxx for rocking my face off.

Expect more praise from me when the full-length is available. In the meantime check out myspace.com/greenriverproject08
