Fully Automatic

The spark of rock imagination electrified the synapses of some Orange County bad boys in the end of an era called the 90’s. Placing sights on stardom, or at least making some damn good music, an entity called Handsome Devil was formed. Hard work, club and arena dates, two LP’s, and legions of fans followed.

Fast Forward to 2006. Handsome Devil delivers their third pulsating package entitled “Fully Automatic”. Half self produced and half assisted by icons of the industry, this is mandatory must have.

Blowing my hair back like a prop fan, “Pretty Pictures” blasts from the speakers. Reminiscent of a spank my monkey skin magazine, the “bitches and whores” stimulate the mind and the sizzling rock agenda. Loud guitars launch a thousand lips into a mighty sing a long. Pull the plug ending maddens.

“Getting You Off” is just plain down and dirty. Sleazy innuendos, a might hammer on, and a straight out of the Cheap Trick school of how to build a bridge. Nice.

OK, why am I not hearing “10 Seconds Ago” livening up a radio stations redundant rotation? This song has top ten written all over it. And that is not a bad thing. Kind of a Motley Crue intro followed by an almost early Elvis (as in Costello) pictorial. Fits snug with rockers and pubescent k-rockers too. Mass appeal.

A clobbering blast of “Guns” is next. T-Rex’s ghost nods approval from above. Vocalist Danny Walker gives the star treatment in a heaping helping. You are gun a love it. And yes "the bitch is like a burning flame". Crank it to 11.

It’s getting better all the time with “Slow Down”. Upbeat cheery seize the opportunity wake up call. Ouch, “all your heroes are dead or in jail”…sounds familiar.

The eternal question, “are you gonna rock, are you gonna roll?” is poised in the Eddie DeLonge (see if you can figure out that reference) sounding “Stay”. Longing desire or randy lust may motivate the story line, but shine and sparkle entice. Upbeat utopia.

“I Can’t Wait” is an enticing allure. Come hither to the rock den of these bad boys iniquity. Classic hooks and catchy lyrics ensure.

As sure as clockwork, “Superfan” ticks and tocks the tale of a fan extraordinaire. The demands of stardom imposed by the fanatical. “Not obsessive”. Not likely. Clever story telling.

“No Way Jose” has the rubbings of an Offspring track minus silly. More grit and grab, with a mean streak. Back away from the woman. Guitar flavored fabulous.

Who left the cage open? The “Little Bird” has flown the coop. Dumped and dumfounded, back in the doldrums again, this song will cure what ails you. Tweet.

“She Rides” is the title. What she is riding is for you to figure out. But it is happening till the morning light. Herky Jerky presentation gives this quirky giddy up. Ace.

Better run for your life as the rage of "Try Me" rips up the last track leaving town. Endeavor to persevere. Dripping and seething, best get out of the way.

So there you have it, and you hath better get it.
