Oklahoma City isn’t well known for much of nothing. I have been here goin on a couple of years and have experienced the growing pains a little with this city. As much as I wanna hate it the bastard is starting to grow on me. Let me tell you though, what this city was needing was a decent bar that would cater to the people like me. Someone who needs a main drag place to hang with no dress code and that will, on occasion, blast out the rock and roll I love. So up steps Joel Buffington to open up Rok Bar on the canal in Bricktown in Oklahoma City.

Now this past thursday night I had the pleasure of reliving a bit of my LA lie when LA Guns hit the stage at Rok Bar. I don’t think everyone at the bar knew who they were, but even the people that made it out rocked as hard as the rest of us that knew them from when they first started playing up to the Brides of Destruction.

Tracy Guns, in my personal opinion, is like a fine wine. He gets better with age. He didnt miss a lick. The band sounded amazing and fortunately I knew all the songs. Unfortunately also in my opinion the sound man that was running the show is not the best in Oklahoma City. Dallas [the sound mans name] lets his ego get in the way of the sound for the venue. They could have picked a better sound engineer but what do you do? I definitely think he is overpaid for what he does. Never the less the crowd loved every minute of the show.

Paul Black on Vocals was good. He reminded me a little of Joey Ramone with his looks but he is a hella entertainer and front man. All over the place and enter-acting with the crowd throughout the whole show. He was a great choice for vocals.

Chad Stewart on drums was crazy off the hook. Sporting a Faster Pussycat T- shirt he got my attention and my thumbs up even before he played. He was a badass in Faster Pussycat and he is still a badass…And all you Idiots KNOW how I feel about Faster Pussycat! His background vocals were great and you can feel a seasoned expert through every beat of the bass drum.

The highlight of the whole show for me I hate to say was when Jeremy Guns on bass guitar stepped up to the mic and sang the Brides song 'Shut the Fuck Up'. I love that song and that was the best song played. Even though the locals will argue with me and tell me that 'The Ballad of Jane' was the best song. All I have to say is phooey...the only reason you like that song is because it is played over and over on VH1 and old school MTV. Real fans of any band will dive head first into the whole library of any band and listen to the other songs other than what’s played on the television. But who am I to preach?? Just sayin...

So in closing I wanna thank Joel Buffington and Rok Bar for bringing good old LA music to the armpit of America and showing the locals what real Sunset Strip Rock and Roll is. And also giving me a taste of home and a in a way, taking me back to my happy place.

Since LA Guns and Tracy are on tour keep an eye open for them coming to a venue in your city and go rock with them. You won’t regret it!
