We missed the opening ceremonies for the Olympics. Rock and Roll got in the way. Beloved band, Poets & Pornstars played the Roxy on the Sunset Strip. The big deal was this was their first show of 2008 and new lead singer was making his debut.

Founder and leader, Hal Ozman left the band last year to concentrate on his acting career. Leaving the P&P’stars to re-group, re-cast, re-hearse and re-cord.

His name is Jeremy. And he looks like Sally and Dave had a baby. Or Randy and Tom got cloned. We could hardly believe it. Jeremy is not just cute, he has a personality that lights up like a skyrocket. And as the New Guy, he moved on stage and sang the songs like he’d been doing it for years.

Hate to sound cold, but I didn’t miss Hal at all. And I was CA-RA-ZY about Mr. O. Jeremy’s voice is similar to Hal’s but a touch lighter and sweeter due in part to his physique. Jeremy is about a stone lighter that the Old Guy. And that megawatt smile and the Roger Daltry moves, Jeremy was liquid and easy. And the fans squealed and screamed louder than ever.

Poets & Pornstars has a following of dedicated fans. Jeremy announced between songs “people flew in from New Jersey for this show!” Yeah, and I walked four blocks. In heels!

New song “Strange” was a show-stopper. Also new, keyboard king, Randy has a mustache and goatee that is very black against his very blonde hair. And Randy Man was doubling on guitar and did a lot more back up vocals, fleshing out the sound even more.

We first saw this band for the first time four years ago on this same stage. With each passing show they get better, tighter, wilder, more fierce and ferocious. The addition of Jeremy is like some ancient prophesy fulfilled. Like dinosaurs should come out of the earth and winged warriors should descend from the clouds. This is the best band in LA, hands down, no contest.

Yeah, we caught up with the rest of the world and watched the Bejing Thing. Thank Ja for You Tube.

Opening Olympics Ceremonies vs. Poets & P’stars? A tie.
