No I am not on a Nikki Sixx parade. Here is the deal. I got a ringtone on my phone and it just HAPPENS to be Nikki's newest endeavor Sixx:Am. The ringtone is cool so it prompted me to get the album Sixx:Am The Heroin Diaries.

As all of you know from reading my previous CD reviews it is important to ME that songs have sing ability. It doesn’t always matter what the words are as long as I can sing them. And I am also a big fan of 80's music. Keeping this in mind it isn’t unbelievable that I am reviewing this CD.

I just finished the Heroin Diaries Book and I find this CD as amazing as the book. To me it seems that the book had been put to music. Nikki has taken the pain of his past, which was put in print to the next level. Joining forces with DJ Ashba and James Michael, the music not only talks to you, but enters your veins like the drugs they sing about. Some of it is bleak, some is soulful, some is sad and some gives hope. You would never guess in a million years that this was the first album put out by these guys. The way it is mastered and arranged is not only contradistinctive but innovative.

The CD opens with an excerpt from The Heroin Diaries being read to the listener. It is chilling and haunting about Christmas alone in Van Nuys on Heroin. The music plays on and tells a tale in an abbreviated way as that it can deliver the same message you get from the book through song.

The first single released from this CD is "Life is Beautiful". This is a powerful song with a message you can’t miss. Its edgy and intense but in my opinion [and you can take t or shove it] not the best song on the CD.

I am torn between "Pray for Me" and "Accidents Can Happen". Before "Accidents Can Happen" was over I already knew the words and the unyielding guitar in "Pray for Me" can send chills up your spine. "Girl with Golden Eyes" talks about heroin and the "romance" it has over someone and the effect on life. The chilling thing is after that track, the CD rolls into a song called "Courtesy Call". I think you can figure out what that is about.

There is only one word to describe this CD. Epic. Standing alone anyone can hear and understand it. The thing is that no one will get the full meaning of what is being said unless they read the book first. People will hear it and either like it or be on the fence with it. But if you read "Heroin Diaries" then listen to this CD there is NO WAY you can dislike any track. This is one CD that demands attention and is more than just a few dudes breaking away from their old bands and trying something new. This is rock from the soul.

You can pick it up online. If you want to hear a few tracks, especially "Life Is Beautiful" and "Pray for Me" you can check it out on MySpace here: http://www.myspace.com/sixxam
