On the recommendation of Rock and Roll’s Original Gangster, Kim Fowley, we went to check out the Fabulous Miss Wendy at the Whisky on the first Saturday night of July.

Mr. Kim met Miss Wendy at this year’s SXSW. According to him, she is the real deal. “She was the only person I met there that was all business.” FYI, one of Rock’s longstanding battles was ended recently when Cherie Currie of the Runaways did a kiss-and-make up with Fowley at a party held at Houdini’s Mansion. It’s magic. For real, it’s on his blog.

Described by Fowley, Miss Wendy is a “Slut Rock Extraordinaire,” which translates to she sings, she plays, she writes and she rocks. Set time was pushed back twice (typical Whisky) so by the time TFMW hit the stage her fans were chomping at the bit.

The guitar, furry strap and amp were all shocking pink and her boots were burgundy. The black tube top topped a black tube skirt with a long dangling rhinestone choker that dusted the floor. Wendy has huge eyes that she blinked, winked and rolled. The effect was stunning.

With a perfect Pop-Punk Princess Cutie Pie voice Miss Wendy is reminiscent of Josie Cotton and the Go Gos’ giggling purr mixed with a tough Rocker Grrrrl growl like Joan Jett and Chrissie Hynde.

Opening and closing songs were sung to playback while the rest of her set was backed up by two very sleek players on bass and guitar. Break out song was “Bitch, Bitch, Bitch” dedicated to our president. Cute. She writes little movies, lyrics work like screenplays of misguided love, sex and anger and fun. Lots and lots of fun. She really sells it.

Wendy’s big finish was “Fabulous” her signature song where she stripped down to her beige undies screaming “Call me Fabulous.” OK, we will.
