As I drove up Silverlake Boulevard and into Spaceland's valet parking, I found a good sized crowd, made up of those about to rock, bottlenecking the club's entrance and spilling into a nearly full house.

While setting foot through the front door and waiting to get checked off of the guest list, I heard the distinct roar of a JCM 800 Marshall stack cutting through the doors leading to the main room.

The Binges had just kicked off their set as I made my way towards the stage, they were cranked up loud delivering their self proclaimed "new generation take on old school style Rock 'n' Roll" sound.

With an enthusiastic response from the assembled mob in front of the stage, it was evident that the Binges were on target and had their shit down. The members who make up the Los Angeles based four-piece outfit are Dylan Squatcho dishing out the bands brawling vocal style. Beating the drums and Setting the tempo for the unruly mob was Travis 'Skanky' Smith. The Fretted instruments are played by two sisters from Tokyo; Tsuzumi Okai on bass and Mayuko Okai on lead guitar.

Incidentally, the sisters aren't two rocker chicks who just picked up their instruments yesterday, these girls kick ass on their instruments as well as any dirty rocker boy out there has a right to.

Over all, The Binges were tight and delivered a solid performance as high in energy as their authentic Rock 'n' Roll sound.

Between bands I walked up to the smoking lounge running into a lot of old friends and making some new ones over laughs and second hand smoke. The venue was at capacity with a good draw of rocker types from the local scenester fixtures to weekend warriors from all corners of the city and beyond. Looking through the lounge's Plexiglas walls, I could see that the next band was set up and ready to go.

As the house lights went down and the stage lights flashed on, Year Long Disaster's first number opened up their set driving hard like a freight train with screaming front man Daniel Davies and his Gibson Fire bird throwing the gears in full throttle. Drummer, Brad Hargreaves was hitting hard and in the pocket with bassist, Rich Mullins laying down the driving bottom end fueling the finely tuned chaos that the power trio served up.The band's sound and performance was hard and heavy.

All in all, the songs were done well. With all the head banging going on during the show, it’s a safe bet that if you want to rock out, then you'll probably dig Year Long Disaster and by nights end, you'll have a self-induced case of whiplash to deal with.

The evening was a success for both bands, and those who came out to support them.

Catch you Later, I'm outta here and off to the next gig.
