As a kid, I constantly looked down to the ground. Chalk it up to shyness or low self-esteem or a combination of the both of them as well as being a constant dreamer. Nevertheless, this has little relevance to what I am writing, only in the loosest sense of the written word. The greatest advantage to never looking people in the eye was what I would find on my solemn walks. It is amazing what we trod upon daily. As a young child, I would constantly be finding money and knick-knacks that were lost or discarded.

It is from there that I draw upon that experience and somehow twist it into the words I am currently conveying to you. Seek and you shall find! Perusing at the ground is like looking for buried treasure. However, being a music head has me digging through crates of dusty records and bins of unwanted or unknown cds. I take great pleasure in discovering lp’s that cost next to nothing and turn out to be “buried treasure”.

Now, The Dogs I have been aware of for some time and own a couple of their records. It really wasn’t until I purchased their first lp “Different” from 1979 (the CD reissue with bonus tracks) that I became aware of the bite that they held within their jaws. This time the bite was worse than the bark and I mean that in the highest of regards!

This is a post punk/powerpop powerhouse masterpiece and should be an essential listen to those that like to discover. Dominique LaBoubee has a quality to his voice similar to Peter Perrett of The Only Ones combined with a little tad of Johnny Thunders rock and roll trash appeal. Hints of The Saints two finger rigid digit, up yours, snottiness spider web through this LP at times. Check out “A Different Me”.

This 2003 reissue up’s the ante and adds some fine bonus tracks from their “Charlie Was a Good Boy” 1977 single as well as an additional five tracks from the “Go Where You Wanna Go” 1978 EP.

An essential purchase for the discerning purveyor of buried treasure.
