Ray Charles' Star

I just heard..........SOOOOOO sad...I saw him in Reno 7 or so years ago... John Ascuaga's (sp) Nugget, It was a pretty big room give or take 1,000 no opening act just him. I always liked his tunes and was aware of his contribution to music so I was pretty excited. As the band started the intro someone helped him out on stage "Georgia on my Mind" was his first song and sounded like he had new teeth for the first couple of songs.......He must have played for at least and hour and a half... AMAZING!!!!!

After the first couple of songs he sounded like he had stripped 60 years off. He was stomping his feet and his hands were moving like the most delicate and fluid of dancers. I saw him after and never having seen him before (or since) I asked him for an autograph (which I really never do)... He said "I never sign anything I can't see." in the most sweet and unjudgemental way. Which at the time I just laughed and thanked him for what he had done tonight and for his music. As I'm thinking now that sweet little statement had A LOT OF WEIGHT! I think of all the injustice he had lived through being blind, black and a musician... He showed no malice or fear. He had a beautiful and grandfatherly disposition and when I think of power and strength in this world no President, or strong man can even come close. I hope he's still playing and free of all our earthly weights.

I will truly miss him.
