***Special Sunshine Superman Performance at London's Royal Albert Hall***

Fellow rock pioneer Shawn Phillips will once again contribute his talents to Donovan's classic album Sunshine Superman during a special 45th anniversary performance at London's Royal Albert Hall on June 3, 2011 with The London Contemporary Orchestra and other special guests. The two were roommates in the sixties inLondon, collaborating musically as well as developing each his own craft. It was during that time that Phillips with Donovan would introduce the sitar's first historic fusion with pop music through Sunshine Superman, and Phillips influence went further when he tutored George Harrison as he took up the instrument and later gave it significance in the music of The Beatles. Phillips was a session player (guitar) on other Donovan LPs as well including Fairytale and Mellow Yellow. Donovan also recorded a successful a cover of Phillips' "The Little Tin Soldier".

During his career on A&M Records, Phillips' made some of his most well know albums, Contribution, Second Contribution, Collaboration and Faces. The singles, "Lost Horizon", "We" and "Woman" were Billboard charted hits and received worldwide radio play. Phillips has sold more than 9 million copies of his 20 albums, and in 2010, he took his successful "50th Anniversary Tour" to over 60 cities throughout the U.S. and Canada. His previous tour included a first time reunion with Paul Buckmaster and J. Peter Robinson, key musicians in his early recordings and resulted in the DVD Living Collaboration: Reunion Concert. His most current releases include the brilliantly compiled CD, Shawn Phillips: At The BBC which wholly encompasses his keen level of musicianship and genius. Second Contribution and Faces have recently been made available digitally. When not touring, Phillips resides in Port Elizabeth, South Africa with his SA born wife and young son. * * * * Tickets available at www.royalalberthall.com

Attention anyone going to see The Wildhearts in New York!!

The Wildhearts gig at the Hook in Brooklyn on Friday 19th October has had to be moved to another venue (Club Exit) due to the original venue (The Hook) unexpectedly closing. The full info from the promoter is below:

"Hey guys - this is for everybody who bought tickets to the Wildhearts gig at the Hook. If you know anybody else who was planning on coming to this show, we HIGHLY recommend forwarding this along. SO. Ha. We're in a little bit of a tight spot. We'd booked this phenomenal show at the Hook, where we've held so many ridiculously awesome shows in the past, and then the Hook CLOSED. We still want to have the show, obviously, so we've simply moved it to Club Exit. It's still in Brooklyn, right off the G in Greenpoint, not terribly difficult to get to and still fairly awesome. The Wildhearts are coming all the way from ENGLAND; there was no way we were cancelling this gig. We're still bringing along all the openers - Generals & Majors, Children of the Unicorn, the Matt Truman Ego Trip, et al. We'd never let you guys down. So let everybody you know in on this - Wildhearts at Club Exit on Friday the 19th - and then join us for a second night with Ginger and the boys aboard the Temptress on Saturday. Address for Club Exit is Club Exit 194 Greenpoint Ave (between McGuinness and Manhattan Aves) Brooklyn, NY 11222"

Tower Records to be liquidated After a lengthy auction stretching over two days, a federal bankruptcy judge on Friday approved sale of California-based Tower Records to Great American Group, which plans to liquidate the music retailer. Great American plans to begin the liquidation process and going out of business sales on Saturday. Now what does that mean to us? That another historical Sunset Strip landmark is going, going, gone. I can’t tell you how many times I bought CD’s at Tower for The Rainbow Bar and Grill during my DJ days. Makes me kinda sad.

Victoria Joyce (SugarBuzz Hollywood) sent in two news stories we feel may be of interest to our readers...

Today in Providence, RI, Daniel Biechele, the tour manager for Great White has done a plea bargain in connection to the nightclub fire in 2003. Ten years for 100 counts of involuntary manslaughter. His lawyer says he wants to "accept responsibility for his part." There are charges pending against the two brothers who own The Station, Jeffrey and Michael Derderian. Families of the victims had mixed and bittersweet reactions. A mom said "This guy to me is like a fall guy."

And some good news: Split Endz is reuniting and got some gigs on the calendar in June in Australia with an eye to doing some stuff in LA and London. Yes, the band will feature the Finn brothers Tim and Neil on vocals and guitars, keyboardist Eddie Rayner, bass player Nigel Griggs, drummer Malcolm Green and percussionist Noel Crombie.

Guitarist Link Wray Dies at 76

By The Associated Press

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) - Guitar master Link Wray, the father of the power chord in rock 'n' roll who inspired legends such as Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie and Pete Townsend, has died.

Wray, 76, died at his home in Copenhagen Nov. 5, a statement from his wife and son on his Web site said. No cause of death was given, but his family said his heart was "getting tired.'' He was buried quietly after a service at Copenhagen's Christian Church Nov. 18.

"While playing his guitar he often told the audience, 'God is playing my guitar, I am with God when I play,''' his wife, Olive, and son, Oliver Christian, wrote. ``We saw you go with God, you were smiling.''

Wray developed a style considered the blueprint for heavy metal and punk music. Frequently seen playing in his trademark leather jacket, he is best known for his 1958 instrumental ``Rumble,'' 1959 ``Rawhide'' and 1963's ``Jack the Ripper.'' His music has been featured in movies including ``Pulp Fiction,'' "Independence Day'' and ``Desperado.''

Wray, who was three-quarters Shawnee Indian, is said to have inspired many other rock musicians, including Pete Townsend of The Who, but also David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Steve Van Zandt and Bruce Springsteen. All have been quoted as saying that Wray and ``Rumble'' inspired them to become musicians.

"He is the king; if it hadn't been for Link Wray and 'Rumble,' I would have never picked up a guitar,''' Townsend wrote on one of Wray's albums. Neil Young once said: ``If I could go back in time and see any band, it would be Link Wray and the Raymen.''

The power chord - a thundering sound created by playing fifths (two notes five notes apart, often with the lower note doubled an octave above) - became a favorite among rock players. Wray claimed because he was too slow to be a whiz on the guitar, he had to invent sounds.

When recording "Rumble,'' he created the fuzz tone by punching holes in his amplifiers to produce a dark, grumbling sound. It took off instantly, but it was banned by some deejays in big cities for seeming to suggest teen violence.

I was looking for something that Chet Atkins wasn't doing, that all the jazz kings wasn't doing, that all the country pickers wasn't doing. I was looking for my own sound,'' Wray told The Associated Press in 2002.

He was born Frederick Lincoln Wray Jr. in 1929 in Dunn, N.C. His two brothers, Vernon and Doug, were also musicians. The three became a country hit as "Lucky Wray and the Palomino Ranch Hands.'' Later, after "Rumble,'' they became "Link Wray and the Raymen,'' or Wraymen, as it was sometimes spelled. Later, the brothers' relationship soured after a dispute about the rights to "Rumble.''

In 1978, he moved to Denmark and married Olive Julie Povlsen. They raised their son in a three-story house on an island where Hans Christian Andersen once lived.

Though he went out of style in the '60s, he was rediscovered by later generations. He toured the United States and Canada since the mid-1990s, playing 40 shows this year. In 2002, Guitar World magazine elected Wray one of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time.

I just received word that Esther Wong passed away last Sunday at the age of 88. Esther was the owner of Madam Wong's in Chinatown and Madam Wong's West in Santa Monica. Any of you readers who are L.A. old timers or music history buffs have heard of or actually had been to these clubs. Of course the clubs closed ages ago, but Esther and the clubs will forever be remembered as launching pads for some of punks finest acts. I sure miss those days.

The Fifth Annual CrüeFest Hollywood

July 30th, 2005

Whisky à Go-Go

Hollywood, CA

Music fans organized CrüeFest - a music event to benefit charity. An event inspired by good-will and the uncensored energy that Motley Crüe's music embodies. Since its inception in 2001, CrüeFest has grown in audience attendance, musician participation, and dollars raised to benefit cancer research. CrüeFest grows every year because of the dedication of organizers, sponsors, artists, and fans who plan, donate, and travel to make it happen.

Proceeds from this fifth annual event go to the Skylar Neil Memorial Fund for Cancer Research. Skylar Neil is the daughter of Vince Neil (lead singer of Motley Crüe) who's battle with cancer resulted in her death at age four. Event supporters share their money for a great cause at CrüeFest, and artists donate their talent and time. We all share love and verve for everyone one of us whose lives have been transformed by experiences with fatal illness, and the losses - and gains of perspective - that come with it.

CrüeFest's continued success is testament to the strength and lasting power of the glam-metal-punk-rock phenomenon. Musicians under this wide and vibrant influence are recruiting the next generation of fans with every show. We at Crüefest know we are partly responsible for fueling the momentum of this edgy musical alliance. We invite you to come hear what freedom sounds like.

Playing this year's event will be Neil Wharton's Rock 'N Roll Junkies, Trahslight Vision, The Erotics, Sabrina Korva, Tyfoid Mary, The Vains of Jenna, Backseat Superstars, Lovely, The Funky Circus Fleas, Blackout and event veterans The Lovehammers. Another special musical guest will be announced soon. At the show you'll hear musicians based out of Hollywood, Los Angeles, Portland, Vancouver, Denver, Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia, New York, and Sweden.

Crüefest sponsors this year include Jägermeister, The Rainbow Bar & Grill, Samick Guitars, The Whisky à Go-Go, Seismic Radio, Pepsi~Cola, Metal Sludge, Sugarbuzz Magazine, www.experiencemetal.com, Thunderground Radio, and Switch Music. We look forward to adding more great sponsors to our growing list!

Free gifts, raffle, and auction items include artists' donations, shirts, stickers, Jägermeister gear, and much more...

Tickets are just $30.00! Visit www.CrüeFest.com to buy tickets, arrange travel plans, and get answers to all of your questions. We'll see you soon!

The following is an email sent to us by former Beatles drummer Pete Best...... Our prayers go out to Mark and we hope to see the band in action here in the states soon!

Dear all,

It is with the deepest of regrets that we have to inform you that The Pete Best Band has postponed their April tour of the USA.

Unfortunately lead guitarist Mark Hay who suffers from diabetes was found in his apartment on Friday afternoon in a coma. It seems that he may have been this way since Wednesday. Mark is currently in hospital on a life support machine. His condition is stable, but, he is still comatose. The hospital have attempted unsuccessfully on two occasions to bring Mark out of the coma. They are attempting to bring him out of it again on Wednesday.

We will keep you informed of his recovery. If you have time join us in a prayer for Mark please do. He needs all our help.

We will see you later in the year.

The Pete Best Band.

Here is a special message from our friend Tracii Guns......

Ok,,

I am back,,,, the Brides are back.

I have had great talks with London and Scot and we have decided to move forward with THE BRIDES. We are gonna take it slow and make sure we get the right guy to fill in for Nikki. As you know Nikki has to leave for now and their is a possibility that he may not ever come back to the brides so , whether or not the new bass player is temporary or not we have to choose assuming that he will be a permanent member of the brides brotherhood.

We are finishing up the new songs right now. As soon as we find our new brother we will go straight into rehearsel and recording.

As always,, this band relys on the support of our fans so , we are open to all suggestions , connections and critics. feel free to email me at theramin@gmail.com

the wedding is over lets get the reception cookin

"Dimebag" Darrel Abbot RIP

Tragedy struck last night in Columbus, OH when an armed man entered the Alrosa Villa nightclub and opened fire, killing 4 people before being shot to death by police.

25 year old Nathan Gale of Marysville, OH walked onto the stage shortly after Damageplan began their first song and shot guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott 5 times at close range before turning the gun on the crowd. Police are still searching for a motive, but say that we may never really know what was behind the attack.

"Dimebag" Darrel Abbot will no doubt be missed. Abbot was one of the original members of Pantera. He was killed on the 24th anniversary of John Lennon's assassination in NYC.

RIP

Ginger from the Wildhearts has sent us a note to post here at SugarBuzz.

"Hey guys, I am looking for a singer.

Before anyone get's the wrong idea, I am not leaving The Wildhearts, not now and probably not ever, but I really want to record and start up something new with a singer, with a view to starting up a brand new band.

I guess that ideally I'd like the guy to be British or Australian, but would not turn away anyone from the States or Europe if they fit the bill.

The bill? Anyone with the God given talent and charisma to floor people. I don't care what style or image the guy has, just as long as he has an incredible voice and personality.

It's going to take an awful long time to find the right character, so what better way of beginning the search than with a network as healthy as our own?

If anyone thinks that they have what it takes then they could always send a tape/CDR to the Po Box address on the site.

Or maybe they just know of an amazing vocalist who's talents are not yet known? That way everyone can join in the search.

I imagine that it would be more fun if people could compare notes as to who is the most underrated, or criminally unknown vocalist that they have ever heard.

Like I said, I am not expecting to find someone overnight, so we have the luxury of time on our side.

Fingers crossed but twitching in anticipation,

Ginger"

If interested, here is the address to send your tapes and such:

Lemmy....get better quick!!!!

MOTORHEAD CANCELS U.S. TOUR DUE TO INJURY SUFFERED BY LEMMY

Motorhead regrets to announce that the U.S. tour scheduled for September/October 2004 is canceled due to a foot injury suffered by vocalist/bassist Lemmy.

Lemmy injured his foot on stage about month ago while touring in Europe.

Lemmy, ignoring the pain and against his European doctor's recommendation, completed the few remaining shows on the Motorhead summer festival tour.

Since he was not able to rest his foot for a while, Lemmy's injury worsened, and his U.S. doctor insisted in no uncertain terms that Lemmy stay off his foot for several weeks in order for it to heal properly.

Motorhead will return for a U.S. tour in March 2005. Lemmy, guitarist Philip Campbell and drummer Mikkey Dee hate to disappoint their fans but it is necessary for Lemmy's injury to heal so that Motorhead can rock long into the future.

Motorhead's latest album, 'Inferno,' has earned the groundbreaking band the best reviews of its career. The Associated Press calls this Metal-Is/Sanctuary Records release "their best album ever ... a 12-track opus that packs as much power, punch and attitude as anything that's ever been committed to tape."

FOR IMMIEDIATE RELEASE:

WIN HARD ROCK BAND KILLINGBIRD ON EBAY FOR CHARITY!

Los Angeles, CA- August 11, 2004

LA based hard rockers Killingbird are raising money for The American Cancer Society and The Humane Society the hard way; they’re auctioning themselves off on eBay.

Fans have been bidding on a performance from the Sunset Strip band since Tuesday morning, when the auction hit eBay, www.ebay.com item number 5513151650.

During an interview with www.metalsludge.tv on Tuesday morning, lead singer Christian announced the fund raiser.

“We’re all touched by cancer” lead singer Christian said. “This is just our version of the car wash for a good cause…We wanted to make a difference and we wanted to do something that would capture the imagination of our fans…”

“We just hope people get into the spirit of the thing, you know?”, Killingbird guitar player August comments, “It could be an amazing event if the rock community puts their shoulder behind this thing.”

When asked about the unusual combination of charities, guitar player Skyla responded, “They’re just two groups we really believe in…we just wanted to share.”

Tony Purnell of Dean Guitars commented on the fund raiser, “It’s cool to see this kind of project happening now… we get so busy with our jobs and daily life that we sometimes forget about what really matters.”

Killingbird released their self titled CD in 2002 and their second record “Waste Another Yesterday” in 2003 on BIG Intertainment Group, a Virgin subsidiary and distributed through EMI. Killingbird’s website is www.killingbird.net.

Killingbird was most recently featured on the Metal Sludge compilation CD with their raw version of Vain’s “Beat The Bullet”.
